Are you interested in finding out more about Academic Achievement Programs (AAP)?
Then you've come to the right place!
AAP programs are primarily intended for students who are:
If you are a high school student, or you are an adult who never attended college, then please visit the Educational Opportunity Center. There you can learn about applying for college, financial aid, and getting a GED (if applicable).
If you are considering applying to the University of Maryland and interested in learning more about the Summer Transitional Program (STP), please be aware that you will need to submit an admissions application to the University first and the Office of Undergraduate Admissions will decide whether to refer you to AAP. If you have already been referred to AAP, please visit the STP Application as soon as possible to let AAP know you are interested in the opportunity before it is too late.
If you are currently an undergraduate student at the University of Maryland, academic and personal support is available to you through Student Support Services/Intensive Educational Development (SSS/IED). Although our core mission is to support the students who attended the Summer Transitional Program, we are here for any undergraduate who is interested.
Finally, if you are an undergraduate at the University of Maryland College Park, Frostburg State University, or Saint Mary's College of Maryland, and are interested in pursuing graduate school, take a look at the Ronald E. McNair Program. The McNair Program provides opportunities and mentorship for budding research scholars.
AAP receives federal grant money, and this money does come with some restrictions on what students we can serve. However, this doesn't necessarily mean that AAP programs are not right for you! We strongly recommend you contact us if you are interested in our services... it can't hurt to ask, can it?
The Summer Transitional Program (STP) is an invitation-only program for students who apply to the University of Maryland through the usual application process. The Office of Undergraduate Admissions at the University determines who will be invited to apply. Even students who are invited to apply are not guaranteed admission into the STP. If you have received an invitation letter, please visit the STP Application as soon as possible to express your interest in the program before it's too late.
Yes, for their first year, AAP students are not permitted to join sports teams and/or pledge into fraternities or sororities. This is to ensure a successful academic year as students will be heavily engaged in rigourous and intensive study. AAP students can however join student clubs and organizations.

If you would like assistance in English, Math, or College Study Skills then the Intensive Educational Development (IED) program can help.
